Upskilling While Working: Lynsey’s Apprenticeship Journey at NEP
For Lynsey, an apprenticeship wasn’t just a way to gain a qualification. It was the perfect opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence, and progress within her career while continuing to work full-time at NEP.
“I wanted the opportunity to develop and learn something new, whilst continuing to work at NEP, and an apprenticeship felt like a good fit. It allowed me to learn on the job and put my new skills straight into practice.”
Through her apprenticeship, Lynsey earned a CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership, giving her a strong foundation to lead a team and take on more responsibilities within NEP.
Developing Skills for Leadership
One of the biggest benefits of the apprenticeship was how it helped Lynsey grow in confidence and develop essential leadership skills. Learning how to manage and motivate a team while balancing her existing role gave her invaluable experience that she now applies daily in her work.
Support from NEP
Lynsey credits NEP’s support as a key factor in her success.
“NEP were very supportive throughout my apprenticeship. I was given time to attend workshops and complete my portfolio work as required. Their support was crucial in helping me successfully gain my qualification.”
The flexibility of the apprenticeship also made it easier for Lynsey to balance work, study, and family life.
“I work full time with two children, so finding the time for additional learning would have been a real challenge for me. The apprenticeship allowed me to be flexible in my approach to learning and gain a qualification that has helped me progress.”
Advice for Future Apprentices
Lynsey encourages anyone considering an apprenticeship to go for it, especially those looking to upskill while continuing to work.
“An apprenticeship is an excellent way of learning ‘as you work’. It provides hands-on experience while allowing you to develop your skills in a real business environment.”
Lynsey’s story is a great example of how apprenticeships can support career progression at any stage, helping employees develop new skills and grow within their roles.
